Tinkerbell Quilt

I supported our company Community Support Campaign Auction again like last year and offered my donation of a Handmade Baby Quilt. I posted a picture of last year’s Ladybug Quilt along with the item description which I think helped to gather interest and bidders ^_^ I was thrilled that the bids this time went over $100! Wow!  This year, the person who won the auction wanted me to make her a Tinkerbell themed pink baby quilt for her granddaughter who will be due in February. It will be her very first grandchild so she’s very very excited and I so happy to be a part it!

So the auction ended in September and it took me a good month to get my hands on some pink Tinkerbell fabric and coordinating fabrics. Because I could only find pink Tinkerbell fabric in flannel, I decide to make the majority of the quilt in flannel fabrics which is soft and cozy and has a wonderful texture for the baby to play with ^_^ I had the fabrics for a while but it took me a long time to figure out the right star pattern to feature the Tinkerbell fabric until I found the Maverick Star block! It’s the perfect pattern because I can center Tinkerbell in each star and the star points are cute and wonky and the blocks are improved and capricious, just like the pixie herself! I started the blocks last week and finished them on Monday, sandwiched and quilted the quilt on Tuesday night, and finished the binding last night! I’m very proud of my first finished quilt of 2010 and this has been the fastest I’ve ever made a quilt even though it took me months to figure out the design! I added pinwheel twinklies in the corners where the star blocks intersected to fill in the blank space, which turned out perfectly!

Tinkerbell Quilt for Baby Natasha

Thanks, Domo-kun, for being my quilt model ^_^

I quilted it with swirlies and leaves and flowers around each Tinkerbell~

I backed it with a purple Tinkerbell flannel ^_^

It’s about 35″ by 48″ which is big enough for me and plenty big enough for a baby ^_^ Sorry, it’s hard to photograph quilts indoors in the middle of the night in the winter >_< I need to learn how to photograph quilts better. I was a bit in a rush to finish this so that it would arrive to her in time for the baby shower that’s later this month. I sent it off today and I hope she likes it! This is probably the coziest quilt I’ve never made because of the soft flannel on the front ant the back. The swirly quilting gave it such a nice texture too! I hope the baby thinks so too!
